Turbulence-degraded image restoration algorithm based on twice bi-dimensional empirical mode decomposition denoising

Abstract

In order to achieve high-quality imaging in atmospheric turbulent environment, this paper proposed a turbulence-degraded image restoration algorithm based on twice bi-dimensional empirical mode decomposition denoising, by combining adaptive optical wavefront detection with digital image processing technology. By using the Hartmann-Shack wavefront sensor to detect the wavefront information in the optical system, it could calculate the optical system point spread function. And then, it used the improved twice bi-dimensional empirical mode decomposition algorithm to achieve image denoising. Finally, it used the R-L algorithm to recover the turbulence-degraded image. It set up an optical experiment system to recover the actual turbulence-degraded image. The results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively attenuate the noise amplification phenomenon and obtain a more stable high-quality atmospheric turbulence-degraded image restoration result.
