Edge preserving image smoothing algorithm based on LLE

Abstract

Existing global optimization algorithms use different norms to constrain the output image gradient to achieve image smoothing, but will sacrifice the weak structure information in the image to achieve better-smoothing performance, resulting in color distortion and detail blurring in the output image. To solve the above problems, this paper proposed an edge-preserving image smoothing algorithm based on LLE(Ep-LLE). It introduced the idea of LLE as the regularization term to optimize function and adopted the L2 norm to punish. Based on the interrelation of pixels in the local area of the image, this method could realize the image smoothing task by constraining local similarity. Finally, the experimental comparison of various algorithms verify the edge-preserving image smoothing algorithm based on LLE can realize the image edge keeping smooth, while preserving the local structural features of the image, and effectively avoid the edge stepping phenomenon caused by the color consistency in the region, to avoid the image color distortion.
