Performance modeling and analysis of CMIMO-SM-ARQ protocol in ITS

Abstract

To improve the throughput and energy efficiency of wireless sensor network(WSN) in intelligent transportation system(ITS), this paper proposed a cooperative multiple input multiple output automatic repeat request protocol with spatial modulation(CMIMO-SM-ARQ). It considered a four-node WSN with dual sending nodes and dual receiving nodes, in which both receiving nodes could act as relays to each other to assist the sender transmitting data, to reduce the probability of system outage. The paper established the discrete time Markov chain(DTMC) model of CMIMO-SM-ARQ protocol with 3L+1 states and gave the state space. Based on the outage probability of WSN and the one-step state transition probability matrix, it derived the analytical expressions of throughput, energy efficiency and delay of CMIMO-SM-ARQ protocol. Numerical simulation results show that the outage probability and energy efficiency of the proposed protocol are better than the single input single output automatic repeat request(SISO-ARQ) protocol, and the CMIMO-SM-ARQ protocol has a higher throughput and lower delay when transmitting information at medium and long distances(over 67 m).
