Analogy-based interactive music generation

Abstract

Analogy-making is a key method for computer to generate natural and creative musical works. Using analogy-making can transfer high-level musical characteristics from one piece to another. In order to control the characteristic attributes of music while making efficient analogy, this paper proposed a novel explicit disentangled encoder-decoder model. This method used the encoder to disentangle pitch and rhythm representations of music with chord, and used the decoder to restore the original music. In the process of music analogy-making, this model enabled a work to borrow the expression form of other works and create similar work with different pitch contour and rhythm pattern. In addition, thanks to the visual feature coding method, this model can intuitively control different feature attributes.
